The alleged irregularities in currency transactions with which directors of the HIAS have been charged were “not perpetrated for material gain,” it was stated here by Judge Leon Pottier, the presiding magistrate. He ordered police to allow the HIAS offices, which were occupied by police, opened for normal business.

Meanwhile, Lewis Neikrug, HIAS European director; David Schweitzer, assistant director; Charles Gordon, treasurer; Vladimir Schach, French director; and David Kyliatchko, a member of the Paris staff, were ordered held in Sante Prison, pending a hearing on charges of violation of the exchange laws.
