A three-point program for Jewish congregations participate actively in the movement to implement and extend civil rights was outlind here at the opening session of a two-day meeting of the Commission on Justice Peace of the Central Conference of American Rabbis by Rabbi Roland B. Gittelsohn, member of the President’s Civil Rights Commission.

Speaking at the Commission’s Institute on Judaism and Civil Rights, Rabbi Gittelsohn urged that the pulpit relate civil liberties to the basic religious principles and point out violations of them. Secondly, he suggested "the formation in every congregation of an action committee, consisting of laymen who will translate the pulpit exhortations for civil liberties into specific action."Finally, he evocated "the organization of joint inter-faith civil rights committees for synagogues and churches to serve as the voice of prophetic religion, Judaism and Christianity together."
