Union Extends Official Recognition to Israel; Requested by Shertok

The Soviet Union has officially recognized the new dish state of Israel, Moscow Radio, heard here, declared today. A request for recognitions had been received by the Soviet Government from Moshe Shertok, Israel’s foreign Minister, the broadcast said.

(The Polish Minister in Cairo today lodged an official protest with the Egyptian Foreign Minister against the bombing of a Polish ship at Tel Aviv by Egyptian ##nes demanded indemnity. This is the first “international incident” reported in three-day-old hostilities since the Jewish state was proclaimed.)
