Shertok Cables to U.N. Charges Against Britain; Says Arabs Got Arms from England

Charges that Britain supplied the Arab counties with guns and ammunition although the British were aware of their intention to ?vade Israel were made today by Moshe Shertok, Israel’s Foreign Minister, in a cable ?nt from Tel Aviv to the United Nations. The message, addressed to U.N. Secretary General Trygve Lie reads:

“From documentary evidence received by us it appears that arrangements were ?de by British authorities to ship a considerable quantity of military equipment to ## Arab Legion, timed so as to reach Transjordan on May 14 and Ma6 15 coincident with termination of the Mandate. Transported on three vessels from Suez to Akaba, the shipment comprises petrol, and more than 255 of guns and other ammunition and as carried out with full Knowledge of British intelligence of the activities and intentions of the Arab Legion.”

The American Zionist Emergency Council today asked the U.S. Government to de## Britain funds which aid the Arabs in their war against Israel. “The time has com for the United States to deny to Britain the means to supply Arab aggressors, ” the Council declared in commenting to supply arms, money and officer to the Transjordan Arab Legion and to the armies of other Arab states.
