The recently formed Turkish “Party of the Nation” has issued a statement declaring that it favors reorganization of religious communities within the country on the basis of non-interference from the government and cession of all religious property to the individual communities which will also have complete autonomy in administering their religious institutions.
Up to the present religious affairs of the minority communities have teen directed by government bureaus, which has created many serious problems for them. Realization of a program such as offered by the new party would end many obstacles in the path of Jewish communal activity such as the fact that no community council members have been elected within the past 15 years because the government has not granted permission to hold new intra-communal elections.
