Italy to Operate Sealed Trains for Displaced Jews in Transit from Austria

Displaced Jews from Austria who will embark at Italian ports for Israel will pass through Italy in sealed trains accompanied by Italian police from the Austro-Italian frontier to the harbor, it was announced here today.

The announcement was made following the arrival this week of the first group of several hundred Jewish DP’s from Austria at the Italian port of Genoa, whence they will sail on an. Italian ship to the French port of Marseille before heading for Israel

Arieh Stern, official representative of Israel, arrived here by plane and was welcomed at the airport by leaders of Jewish organizations. He declared that he will concentrate his efforts on winning Italian recognition of Israel.
