The Federation of Jewish Philanthropies of New York will seek to raise $16,500,000 in its 1948 appeal, the largest maintenance sum in its history, to support its network of 116 affiliated hospitals, health and social welfare institutions, Benjamin Lazrus, chairman of the campaign, announced today.
The record campaign goal, $3,250,000 more than was raised in the 1947 campaign, is made necessary by rising prices which resulted in institutional deficits in the number of people served by the institutions as a result of new affiliations to the Federation network.
Under the slogan, “Not Lees Service for Those Who Need Help–But Greater Generosity from Those Who Can Help,” the Federation’s 31st annual appeal will get under way Thursday, October 7, at a dinner at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel, where General Dwight D. Eisenhower will deliver the principal address.
