Richard Wendler, a former high official of the German military government in the Polish cities of Cracow and Lublin during the occupation, who was responsible for the deportation and death of 19,000 Jews, was today arrested by the French military government in Germany, it was reported here.
Wendler, a brother-in-law of Heinrich Eimmler, was acquitted by a denazification court of any crimes or of having been a major Nazi just prior to his arrest by the French. He has been living in Germany under an assumed name since the end of the war.
