A budget of $200,000 for 1949 was adopted here today by the American Association for Jewish Education, it was announced at a dinner tonight for members of the Founders Fund of the Association. The dinner climaxed a three-day meeting of the Association’s board of governors.
Meeting earlier with presidents of local central agencies of Jewish education, the board of governors heard reports on the Association’s work from Dr. Israel S. Chipkin, executive director, Mr. Michael A. Stavitsky, president, and Dr. Aharon Kessler, director of the Association’s department of community service and consultation. Dr. Chipkin disclosed that the Association spent nearly $140,000 on its services in 1948 — almost twice the amount spent the previous year. Dr. Kessler urged expansion of local agency services to include rural communities in nearby areas.
The board of governors passed resolutions calling for expansion of central agency services in large communities to meet rural needs in surrounding areas, and for the establishment of a Mid-Western region of the American Association in the near future.
