The Jerusalem front was quiet during the past 24 hours, an Israeli communique announced today.
At the some time, there are disquieting signs of Arab Legion preparations to reopen the war. It is reported reliably that considerable shipments of heavy guns and other equipment including tanks have recently arrived in Transjordan from British bases in Libya. In addition there is a heavy air traffic in arms and munitions to Transjordan. Some of the weapons thus acquired have been issued to Legion troops on the Jerusalem front and some have made their way to Iraqi forces on the central front.
The Israeli Government is reported prepared to beat off any “surprise” attack by the Legion in an attempt to seize all of Jerusalem or encircle it and make the Jewish position untenable. At the same time, the Jews are taking measures to avert the necessity for agreeing to any political arrangement under threat of force.
