35-member U. J. A. Delegation Arrives in Paris; Will Proceed to Rome En Route to Israel

A thirty-five member United Jewish Appeal delegation arrive here this morning on route to Israel. The delegation, which is headed by Justice Benjamin Shalleck, president of the Young Men’s Philanthropic League, and Max Ogust, executive chairman of the U.J.A. Council of Organizations, will leave for Rome Friday and is scheduled to arrive in Haifa Monday.

At a press conference later in the day, Justice Shalleck outlined the purpose of the delegation. He said that the group would conduct a survey and make a report on the needs of an estimated 125,000 DP’s who will immigrate to Israel in the next year, and the housing problem in Israel. Ogust, who also spoke at the conference, praised the work of the Joint Distribution Committee.
