Israeli-lebanese Armistice Talks Adjourned to Thursday; Major Issues Still Unresolved

The Israeli-Lebanese armistice conference was adjourned today until Thursday. The Joint five-hour meeting took place on the Arab side of Ras el Nakura, border town.

It was understood here that the major issues raised by both sides have not ##et been resolved. Henry Vigier and Gen. William E. Riley, civilian and military ##ides, respectively, to U.N. mediator Ralph J. Bunche, were present at today’s meeting and the former is reported to have presented new U.N. compromise proposals to both delegations.

The Israeli Government still has no official notification that Syria intends to pin the armistice negotiations at Rhodes, a Foreign Ministry spokesman said today.

The exchange of prisoners of war between Israel and Egypt began today, as scheduled. The total number of prisoners involved, it is understood, is l,141 Egyptians and 155 Israelis, A gang of armed Arabs who infiltrated Israel from the north last night was captured by local authorities in Western Galilee and turned over to Israeli Army authorities.
