A total of $3,250,000 was received by the United Jewish Appeal of Greater U.Y. at a series of dinners held here last night. One of the principal functions was held at the Hotel Pierre under the auspices of the National Jewish Welfare Board and as a testimonial, to Surrogate George Frankenthaler. Frank Weil, president of the J.W.B., presented him with a plaque in appreciation of his efforts for Jews both abroad and in this country.

Aubrey Eban, Israeli representative at the United Nations, addressing the dinner said: “We in Israel are determined to keep our gates open to the tide of uprooted and homeless destitute Jews which sees there the fulfillment of their dreams of peace and dignity and the opportunities to live again productively and constructively, Admittedly the problems thus brought on Israel are of tremendous urgency, in fact clearly beyond the resources of Israel alone. And we must look to American Jewry, which now rejoices with us, to share with us in facing the difficulties and obligations we are now incurring.”
