Reports reaching Jewish Agency headquarters here today on the situation of Jews in Iraq state that hundreds of Jews in that country have been imprisoned on charges that they are Zionists.

The reports say that because corporal punishment is now illegal in Iraq, prison officials there are instigating Moslem inmates to attack the Jewish prisoners. Since only the affluent Iraqi Jews are able to bribe the jail wardens to permit them to remain unshackled, the reports continue, the majority of the imprisoned Iraqi Jews are in chains and their condition is generally worse than that of Moslem prisoners.
