Negotiations Open in Vienna for $15,000,000 Austrian-israel Trade Agreement

Negotiations opened today between Israel and Austrian representatives to conclude a one-year trade treaty on the basis of exchange of goods valued at the equivalent of $15,000,000.

An interesting point in the talks is the request of Israel that part of the blocked Jewish holdings be transferred to Israel in compensation for Austrian exports. Austrian Finance Ministry officials want the Jewish state to pay for exports by a certain amount of convertible currency, and the remainder on a barter basis. Austria is offering a variety of textiles and leather products and prefabricated dwellings. In exchange, Israel is offering chemicals, fruits and other products.
