Former New York Governor Herbert H. Lehman, who has long been active in United Jewish Appeal and Joint Distribution Committee activities and who served as director-general of the U.N.R.R.A. immediately after World War II, was elected to the U.S. Senate yesterday in a special New York State election. Senator-elect Lehman will be the only Jewish member of the present Senate. From 1907-1913, Simon Guggenheim, a Jew, represented the state of Colorado in the Senate.
