Hias Helped 26,000 Jews Emigrate from European Countries During 1949

More than 26,000 Jews were helped by the HIAS to emigrate from European countries during 1949, it was reported here today by Isaac L. Asofsky, executive director of the organization, in connection with the 65th annual meeting of the HIAS which will be held here Sunday at the Hotel Astor. Of the total, 16,573 went to the United States, 2,055 to Latin America, 1,063 to Canada and 2,006 to Israel, and the remainder to a number of other countries.
