Abba Eban, Israel’s new Ambassador to the United States, conferred with Secretary of State Dean Acheson today at the State Department. Mr. Eban said his visit with Secretary Acheson was a courtesy call prior to the presentation of his diplomatic credentials to President Truman.

Ambassador Eban described his talk with Mr. Acheson as “purely courtesy in character.” After the meeting, he told newsmen he may present his credentials to President Truman later this week. Later in the day he also met with Assistant Secretary of State George McGhee, who is in charge of Middle Eastern Affairs at the State Department. Eban met McGhee in his capacity as Israel delegate to the U.N.
