U.S. Consulate in Sweden Starts Issuing Visas to Refugees Under Amended Dp Act

Issuance of United States visas to persecutees living as refugees in Sweden began this week when the U.S. Consul in Stockholm notified 50 Jewish displaced persons that they will be permitted to immigrate to the United States under the amended DP Act of 1948, it was announced here today by Isaac L. Rsofsky, HIAS executive director.

According to the HIAS official, a section of the amended DP Act provides that half of the non-preference quota of various European countries is to be allocated to persons who fled from lands where they were persecuted and have not been finally resettled.
