British Jews Urge Speeding of Payment of Restitution and Compensation to German Jews

Barnett Janner and A.G. Brothman, chairman and secretary, respectively, of the foreign affairs committee of the Board of Deputies of British Jews, today, called on Lord Henderson, Under Secretary of Foreign Affairs, to urge the speeding up of restitution and compensation claims payments in the British zone of Germany. They also urged that funds due victims of Nazism who now reside outside Germany should be transferred to them.

The Board delegation also ad?ed that in view of the resurgence of Nazism in Western Germany steps should be taken to insure that international guarantees for the implementation of human and civil rights be included in the proposed revision of the German occupation statute. Later, the same delegation saw A.G. Bottomley, Secretary for Overseas Trade, in order to raise the question of heirless and unclaimed property in this country belonging to Jews who perished under the Nazi regime.
