Declaring that a strong and prosperous Israel is the best guarantee of peace in the Middle East, Sen. Irving M. Ives today requested that the United States Government give “some form of grant-in-aid” to Israel immediately.

Sen. Ives, who spoke at a meeting here, emphasized that it is “most essential” that American aid should reach Israel as early as possible. “A strong and prosperous Israel, standing on the crossroads of three continents, can be a bastion of democracy for all the forces of freedom,” he said.

“The great record of Israel and the attitude of Israel emphasize the responsibility of our own nation to the other free nations of the world in this hour of crisis,” the Senator continued. “Recognizing, as we must, that heroic spirit of sacrifice and devotion to the cause of freedom and justice which is so typical of Israel and which still lives in abundance in the hearts of free men everywhere, we cannot let them down.”
