The Israel Government expects to take in some 31,000,000 pounds–about $87,000,000–from income taxes in the fiscal year ending next March, it was revealed here last night with the submission of its 198,000,000-pound budget to Parliament.
In addition, the government expects to realize some 13,000,000 pounds from customs duties and 11,000,000 from the luxury taxes. Among the major expenditures visualized in the document are: 38,000,000 for the Ministry of Defense; 5,500,000 for the absorption program; and 5,000,000 for food subsidies.
The Knesset last night interrupted debate on the draft bill to abolish capital punishment in order to have a second reading of a measure setting the term of office of the President and the conditions governing its tenure.
