The Israel Cabinet, at its regular weekly meeting, today discussed the establishment of an export bank and appointed a Ministerial committee to investigate the problem. It also appointed a second committee of Ministers to draft a bill for a state-supported system of higher education.
The necessity of increased industrial output for export purposes was stressed here tonight in a radio broadcast by Minister of Trade and Industry Dov Joseph. He stressed that priority for raw materials will be given to those enterprises which increase their output and produce competitive goods more cheaply. The Minister also pledged that the government would maintain food rations at their present level and would shortly issue a quantity of needed clothing.
Reports on the progress of the United Jewish Appeal and Israel bond campaigns in the U.S. were made by U.J.A. Leaders Dr. Joseph J. Schwartz and Henry Bernstein and bond drive head Henry Montor at a meeting of the Jewish Agency here late today. The U.J. A. spokesman referred to the need to fix. campaign schedules in such a fashion that there would be no overlapping, while Mr. Montor explained the general lines along which his organization is working. Ambassador Abba S. Eban also reported on the two campaigns and on the possibility of obtaining increased private investments from America.
