The British Government is appalled by the recent developments behind the Iron Curtain including the Prague trials and the Moscow accusations against Jewish doctors, Anthony Nutting, Undersecretary for Foreign Affairs, told an Agudas Israel delegation that called on him this week-end. The British official said that “these sad events have a horribly familiar ring about them.”
Mr. Nutting revealed that the British delegation to the U. N. will submit to the world body full details of “discriminatory practices in the Iron Curtain countries against religious and political minorities. ” He added that developments of the new situation would be carefully studied.
Pleas to the Soviet Union and other Communist countries to let the Jews in those countries emigrate to Israel if the Communist authorities “do not want” them, were voiced here today at a mass meeting held in London’s East End by the Zionist Federation of Great Britain. Barnett Janner, M. P. presided. Prof. Selig Brodetsky and Dr. S. Levenberg of the Jewish Agency were among the major speakers.
