Awards in the Matias Stoliar Memorial Contest for young Jewish writers were announced here today. The awards were established by the family of the late Mr. Stoliar, founder, publisher and editor, of “Die Yiddishe Zeitung,” largest Yiddish newspaper in South America.

The first prize went to 26-year-old Dov Segal and 21-year-old Yehuda Erlich, who collaborated in writing a short story. The second prize was awarded for an essay by Alberto Geiser, 22, entitled “Der Toidt fun Unsere Eltern, “and the third award went to 23-year-old Mordechai Herst for an article entitled “Integral Yiddishkeit.” The three works, chosen from among 17 selections, will be published by the Yiddish Culture Congress on July 4, which is the second anniversary of the death of Mr. Stoliar.
