The year-1953 will be a great tourist year for Israel, it was predicted today at a press conference arranged by the Israel National Tourist Center here. On the basis of inquiries by prospective travelers and re-, ports received from shipping companies and travel agencies the Israel Government Tourist Department expects that travel in Israel by American tourists will break all previous records.

It was pointed out that of the 32, 935 tourists who visited Israel in 1952 some 12,000 were Americans. With the overall figures expected to hit 50, 000 this year, the Americans will probably supply half of the totals.

Another attraction for tourists will be the Fourth International Maccabiah Games at Tel Aviv Sept. 20-29 which will bring together some 1,000 Jewish athletes from 30 nations. The last games were held in 1950.

From September 22 through October 14, the Israel Government will sponsor the “Conquest of the Desert” International Exhibition and Fair in Jerusalem. Agencies of the United Nations, various governments and 300 private firms and organizations will participate in the exhibition of industrial, cultural and scientific developments of the fight against the desert.
