The Jordan Government was today censured by the U.N. Mixed Armistice Commission for an attack Friday on an Israeli military outpost in the Judean Hills during which two Israeli soldiers were killed and a third wounded. The meeting of the Commission took place under the chairmanship of Maj. Gen. Vagn Bennike, U.N. truce supervisor.
Commenting on the attack Israeli authorities said that the discussions recently held on a high level between Israel and Jordan must be viewed in the light of what practical steps the Jordanians take to discover the attackers and in punishing them when they are found. The Israelis suggested that they be allowed to use bloodhounds to track down the enurderers. Unless practical measures are taken to implement the high level discussions, they insisted, all declarations become only “empty words.”
One Jew was killed today by unidentified assailants in a settlement in the Negev. Tracks leading to the Egyptian frontier were discovered by Israel police authorities. An Israel unit clashed with a band of armed Arabs along the northern frontier. The Arabs, who had crossed into Israel territory from Lebanon, retreated after an exchange of fire.
