Chief Rabbi of Hungarian Town Arrested; Jewish Leaders Sentenced

Dr. M. Schoenfeld, Chief Rabbi of the Reform Jewish Community in the Hungarian town of Arad, was arrested by the local authorities, it was reported here today.

The report also said that three Jewish leaders were sentenced last week by an Hungarian court to various terms of imprisonment on the charge of conducting Zionist activities. Those sentenced are: Stephen Kraus – to three years’ imprisonment; Ludwig Gardos – to one year; and M. Weisenberg – to seven months. Three other defendants charged with the same offense were acquitted, the report stated.
