Secretary of State John Foster Dulles indicated at a press conference today that he favors the move instituted by Israel at the United Nations invoking Section XII of the Israel-Jordan Armistice Agreement to force direct talks between Jordan and Israel.

Mr. Dulles pointed out that the Armistice Agreement provides that such talks are obligatory and said he hoped this fact will be recognized. Through this approach and by good faith on both sides, he said, there may be the means to eliminate causes of friction between Israel and Jordan. The Secretary gave these views in response to questions by a JTA correspondent.
