A demand that the McCarran-Walter Immigration Act be revised “in the American spirit of courage, humanity and freedom, and not is a frightened atmosphere of suspicion and withdrawal from reality,” was made here last night by Senator Robert C. Hendrickson of New Jersey, speaking at a meeting at Montclair, near here.
The Senator charged that in many instances administration of the law is “harsh and arbitrary” and infringes on traditional standards of fair play. He pointed out that except for the Indians all Americans are “immigrants or the descendants of immigrants.”
