The Senate is expected to give speedy confirmation to the appointment of Simon E. Sobeloff as Solicitor General of the United States. The appointment of Judge Sobeloff, now the Chief Judge of the Maryland Court of Appeals and the first Jew ever to fill that post, was announced late last night by a White House spokesman.

As Solicitor General, Judge Sobeloff will be the Government’s representative in all litigation pending before the Supreme Court. A leader of a number of Jewish organizations in Baltimore, Judge Sobeloff, an intimate of Maryland’s Gov. Theodore McKeldin, accompanied the Governor on a recent trip to Israel.
