The departure of Ambassador Edward B. Lawson for Israel will be postponed until the first or second week of October, the State Department made known today.
The State Department, meanwhile, officially denied that the delay had anything to do with the question of Mr. Lawson presenting his credentials in Jerusalem. The postponement of Ambassador Lawson’s departure was caused by his hospitalization for a slight operation, the State Department said. Mr. Lawson had expected to leave Washington this week-end.
