“The New Year, which marks the entrance of American Jewry into the fourth century of Jewish life in this country, will be a year of reappraisal,” Louis P. Rocker, president of the Jewish Telegraphic Agency, declared in a Rosh Hashanah statement. “Jewish achievements during the 300 years of settlement in what is now the United States will be evaluated this year and the challenge which the new century holds for American Jewry will be analyzed.
“The Jewish Telegraphic Agency, in recording impartially day-to-day events and developments which make Jewish history, will continue to be on the alert in 5715 to keep American Jews informed on matters of major concern to every Jew, and to serve the Jewish community. It is with pride that I note that the JTA is regarded by Jewish leaders throughout the world as ‘the eyes and ears of the Jewish people.’
“Arab threats to Israel are increasing. Grave dangers still imperil Jews living in totalitarian countries. The situation of the Jews in North Africa will, during the new year, require greater vigilance than ever before. Aware of its obligations as the information arm of the Jewish community, the JTA will intensify its efforts to bring speedily to the public attention all developments concerning the Jewish people in the United States, in Israel, and in all other countries.”
