A committee of Austrian Government officials is currently at work preparing a document on Austria’s capabilities to meet the demands of the world Jewish organizations for restitution, including a lump sum settlement for heirless Jewish property, it was learned here today. The document will serve as background material in the Parliamentary debate on the subject, which is expected to open after October 27.

Informed sources here expect that Parliament’s decision, and the government’s reply which depends on Parliament’s pleasure, will be influenced decisively by the stand taken by Reinhardt Kamitz, Finance Minister, who recently visited the United States and reportedly investigated again the position of the Committee on Claims on Austria, the body representing the world Jewish organizations.
