First Shipment of U.S. Arms Arrives in Iraq, State Dept. Reports

The Defense Department today said that the first shipment of American military aid arrived in Iraq yesterday and is being unloaded from the freighter “Steel Artisan” at the port city of Basra. It includes military vehicles and engineering equipment. The vessel was met at dockside by representatives of the United States Embassy and the Iraqi Ministry of Defense.

The U.S. Information Agency announced today that in expanding its program of publicizing abroad the peaceful uses of atomic energy it is sending newly-built mobile exhibit units promoting “atoms for peace” to the Middle East. The units are now en route and will begin their tours in mid-January.
