A bill setting up an FEPC in Pennsylvania and fixing penalties of 30 days in jail or $500 fine for discrimination in employment has been adopted by the House of Representatives of the Pennsylvania legislature. The measure is now before the state Senate.
The debate before passage of the bill, which was achieved 161 to 123, was extremely heated as the House rejected one after the other a number of amendments aimed at watering down the measure. The bill follows closely a similar measure passed by the House in 1953, but allowed to die in the Senate.
