The first family to quit Foehrenwald for Israel under a new plan for the emigration of “hard-core” cases not previously acceptable for settlement in Israel left today. The family of Abraham Barman, his wife and five-year-old daughter will travel overland to Genoa where they will board a ship for Israel and settle in Kibbutz Givat Brenner.
Their departure from the camp, the last remaining Jewish DP center in Germany, was made possible under a plan worked out by the Joint Distribution Committee in cooperation with the Jewish Agency and the Israel Governmetn. The families of such “hard-core” cases as go to Israel will be cared for by Malben, JDC’s welfare program in the Jewish State. There is no indication as to the number of families which will eventually be included in this special project, but several families are now being processed for early emigration.
