Israel President Gets Scroll from Pennsylvania Governor

President Itzhak Ben Zvi was presented today with a scroll signed by George Leader, Governor of Pennsylvania, the Attorney General of the State and the Mayor of Pittsburgh conveying their “warm friendship to the courageous men and women of the State of Israel.” The scroll, presented by Philip Berman of Allentown, Penna., also bore a list of Pennsylvanians who had become Guardians of Israel–purchasers of at least $1,000 in Israel bonds.

Gov. G. Mennen Williams of Michigan, leaving Israel after a week’s stay, said today that he believed in Israel’s future and added that “the United States should do everything possible to assist the economic development of all countries” in the Middle East region in order to help the people of these countries attain a higher standard of living. Only in such a manner can tension be eased in the region. Gov. Williams insisted.
