Malkiel Gruenwald, pamphleteer, who was upheld in the year-long libel suit leading out of charges against Dr. Israel Kastner, former head of the Hungarian Jewish Rescue Committee, brought charges of perjury against Dr. Kastner before the Tel Aviv Magistrate today. The Israel Government was re-organized last week as a result of the Kastner-Gruenwald case, which has rocked Israel since it began.

Before lodging the private criminal complaint, which is due to be heard July 31, Mr. Gruenwald’s lawyer attempted to convince the Attorney General that he should take action against Dr. Kastner, in whose behalf the Attorney General originally took up the prosecution of Mr. Gruenwald. The Attorney General ruled that the Supreme Court still had therefore nothing would be done about charging Dr. Kastner at this time. Mr. Gruenwald thereupon filed the private complaint, charging that Dr. Kastner had lied during testimony in the Gruenwald case.

Mr. Gruenwald’s attorney charged that Dr. Kastner had lied when he testified that he had never appeared before or sent sworn statement to the International War Crimes Tribunal at Nuremberg in behalf of S.S. Colonel Kurt Becher, organizer of the persecution of Hungarian Jewry.
