The U.S. Department of Commerce announced that an Arab business firm in Syria has been barred from receiving U.S. exports because it diverted one hundred U.S. jeeps from Beirut, Lebanon, to Communist Rumania.
The vehicles were acquired here “to be resold for agricultural use in Syria and Lebanon only, “but were transshipped to the Communists by the Arab firm. The Bureau of Foreign Commerce said that Les Fils de Basile Obegi, of Alepho, Syria, have been barred from U.S. export program, while Jean B. Maghamez, a Syrian businessman, was suspended from participation for six months.
