Ephraim R. Gomberg, for the past 10 years executive director of the Allied Jewish Appeal, this city’s fund-raising arm of the UJA, submitted his resignation today to enter private industry. His resignation comes one month after the retirement of Miss Frances N. Harrison, executive director of the city’s other fund-raising organization, the Federation of Jewish Charities.

The Allied Jewish Appeal is the principal source in Philadelphia of funds for national and overseas beneficiaries, Israel, and local Jewish causes. Campaigns under Mr. Gomberg’s direction in the decade of his service have produced more than $55 million for philanthropic purposes. Largest campaign under his direction was the 1948 drive, which raised $8,400,000 during Israel’s struggle for independence.
