Presence of Water in Sodom Detected; Drilling of Wells Planned

Geological research recently carried out in Sodom point to the presence there of considerable quantities of deep subterranean waters, it was reported here today. The report said that the drilling of artesian wells will soon be started in the Sodom area.

The report revealed that intensive search operations for oil continue in Israel. Four companies in four different areas are making deep drillings. Their equipment is valued at about five million Israel pounds. Beside this another three million pounds and about two million dollars has been invested in the search for oil.

The Israel Government, it was stated here today, hopes to export about 50,000 tons of potash this year. New pumping stations are now in use in the extracting of minerals from the Dead Sea, and the workers camp at Sodom has been rebuilt completely. The government is now concentrating on three major branches in the development of Israel’s mineral resources, it was indicated Dead Sea resources, potash and bromides; copper, and phosphates and the production of phosphoric salt and acids.
