Israel Finance Minister Presents 900,000,000-pound Budget to Cabinet

Finance Minister Levi Eshkol laid estimates for a 900 million pound budget for the fiscal year 1956-57 before the Israel Cabinet yesterday in addition, Mr. Eshkol proposed the imposition of a special tax to raise a 50 million pound defense fund and continuation of the campaign to bring to its 25 million pound goal a voluntary defense fund started with contributions by the Israeli people when they heard that Czechoslovakia was selling Egypt offensive weapons.

The Cabinet also heard a reports by Foreign Minister Moshe Sharett on current international developments, including Angle-American developments. Mr. Sharett reported in detail on talks held by Premier Ben Gurion and himself with United Nations Secretary General Dag Hammarskjold during the latter’s visit here last week.
