“The Federal Government and the German people will continue to consider the compensation of victims of Nazi persecution an important and urgent task by carrying out the new indemnification law liberally, fairly and speedily.” Dr. Konrad Adenauer, Chancellor of the West German Federal Republic, declared today in a statement to the German-language weekly Aufbau.” Dr. Adenauer, who is now on a visit to the United States, added.

“I realize that no financial compensation can ever make up for the horrible events of the years 1933 to 1945. I hope, however, that the desire of the German people, of the Federal Government and all German political parties to redress the wrongs committed by the Nazis will be recognized in the United States. In this connection, I want especially to thank the Conference on Jewish Material Claims Against Germany, representative of all leading Jewish organizations in this matter and its president, Dr. Nahum Goldmann, for their constructive cooperation.”
