The Central Council of Jews in Germany has registered a strong protest against the apparent intention of the Bonn Ministry of Finance to enact, without first consulting the organizations of Nazi victims, the implementation regulations to the new compensation legislation.
These implementation regulations are indispensable to the carrying out of the amendment to the Federal Indemnification Law that was adopted by Parliament in the late spring. Since that time, the interested Jewish and other organizations have never been invited to discuss the government drafts of the implementation regulations.
This might be understandable, the Central Council said, if the regulations had been rushed through in July, before the parliamentary summer recess. Now that so much time has elapsed, the Council added, there is no excuse for failure to seek the views of the organizations concerned.
The Central Council of Jews in Germany is deeply concerned with the regulations that will govern the determination of invalidity pensions and of pensions to widows and immediate dependents of Nazi victims, and for that reason seeks to bring its influence to bear upon the formulation of the legal texts.
