A check for $178,000 the first installment of an estimated $500,000 legacy left by the late Morris Miller to Yeshiva University, was presented here tonight at the University’s 28th annual scholarship dinner. The check was handed Yeshiva President Dr. Samuel Belkin by Mrs. Bessie Miller.
The money, Dr. Bell in said, would be used for scholarship and academic purposes. Max J. Etra, chairman of Yeshiva University’s Board of Trustees, reported that a record total of $744,000 would be spent this year to provide scholarship assistance to 83 percent of the student body. A total of 2,660 students from 25 states and 18 foreign countries will benefit from the scholarship fund this year.
Major speakers at the dinner were Minnesota’s Sen. Hubert H. Humphrey and Charles H. Silver president of the New York City Board of Education.
