A bill authorizing the Secretary of Agriculture to exempt kosher slaughter of poultry from compulsory inspection was passed yesterday by the Senate. The bill will now be considered by the House.

The proposed legislation instructs the Agriculture Department to exempt “processing as required by recognized religious dietary laws” from government inspection. It would impose penalties on merchants for selling “unwholesome and adulterated” products.
