President Eisenhower submitted today a report to Congress on the Mutual Security Program for the six months ended last December 31 in which it is reported that commodity prices in Israel have “soared. ” The report said “existing plans for economic improvement were highly uncertain.”
In Egypt, the report said, the sequestration of foreign business establishments contributed toward widespread unemployment and seriously reduced imports. The report said: “The new political climate in the Middle East and the economic consequences of the Suez closure and subsequent military actions posed complex problems in the planning and execution of economic activities in the area.”
