Europe, which for decades supplied all cantors for American synagogues, now looks to the United States for its trained interpreters of the liturgical music of the Jewish tradition, Dr. Abraham N. Franzblau, dean of the School of Sacred Music, training center for cantors, said yesterday.

Dr. Franzblau disclosed that Dr. Max Warse of Brooklyn’s Union Temple will leave New York December 31 to become cantor of Berlin’s Jewish community. Acting on a request from Heinz Galinsky, president of Berlin’s Jewish community, the Union Temple released Dr. Warse from contractual obligations and freed him for service abroad. His new post brings Dr. Warse back to his native land which he left in 1938, as a refugee from Hitler. persecution.
