The heroic work of Jewish voluntary agencies, like the Joint Distribution Committee and the United Hias Service, is underlined in a book which Syracuse University Press will publish shortly, it was announced today. The book, “Escape from Fear,” was written by Martin A. Bursten, of the United Hias staff.
In a preface to the book, Scott McLeod, U.S. Ambassador to Ireland who headed the U.S. refugee program prior to being named to his present post, appeals for a revision of the U.S. immigration laws so that this country may deal more expeditiously with emergencies similar to the exodus of some 200,000 Hungarians in 1956-57.
